What was claimed to be on the program was clearly not there (attack minorities). There is a poison in the gaming community. People are picking sides, telling people who their fiends can be, people trying to find out if somebody watched a podcast when they weren't supposed to.
There are two sides to every story, but if you even dare to question things you are labelled a hater, a troll, a supporter of the evil ones.

When you make a "magazine" cover that insinuates that feminists are demanding the word "mankind" be changed to "unkind" you engage in a form sex based politics that comes off as anti-women in gaming... not rudy, you. When you caption as well the title "madman or visionary?" you lend credibility to the attacks he makes on other people, and that's you choosing to do that, not rudy, not "guilt by association" but you. Now I have no intention of blocking or this and that and the other. But I think you should know why that cover might come off as upsetting to many. Its not only a matter of giving that guy a soapbox, but also a matter of the words you chose for that cover. If I posted a photo of the virgin mary, but painted with blood or urine, people would say "Well, art is allowed to be controversial". People are too quick to jump to one side or another and pick up arms. Ben Mullen I think the key concern with people like this is a bit confusing at first perhaps, but manifestly obvious in the long run. Any community should, I think, have some minimum level of ethical standard as a litmus test to be celebrated. If you just take a cursory look at this fellows "fan page" you will see ample evidence of the sorts of thing Melissa is saying here. She is not lying about the claims he makes at all. He very often calls PSP's and melissas son retarded, claims they live in section 8 housing etc etc... And that's just one family he goes after. Now I realize you agree with this from your other posts but the rub comes in what the right response is towards this fellow. A good example, and a complex one, is Bobby Fisher in Chess. Now Bobby Fisher is not a perfect example because he was (arguably of course) the best to ever play the game (a position this fellow does not hold in gaming). Also as bad as what this fellow in the gaming scene says, what Bobby fisher would often say was even worse. He would constantly make raving antiemetic statements, cheer on the 9-11 attacks, etc. So how does the chess world deal with him? Almost as 2 separate people in some ways. Many of Fishers games are celebrated as some of the best ever played and analyzed, while folks simultaneously denounce him as a person. I think the cover which poses the question "Is he a visionary" and makes a claim about what "feminists demand", seemingly a claim coming from you and not him fails to do what the chess world did. Its begs us to wonder if you agree with his non-gaming standpoints while the feminist statement begs us to realize why you may not have picked up on the misogyny in the recent "podcast". So really, its not even that players action that makes people upset so much as yours; the choices you made in the text of the cover etc... If instead you had made a cover that dealt only with what he had done in gaming (and where I differ from some is that I do think some things he has done are impressive) it would not have been so bad. I think in general we should read about, and consider how the chess world dealt with this sort of situation in the past as we make decisions about how to deal with a similar situation in the present. I hope this answers some of the question about why people might be upset about this cover.

Arcade Culture Magazine Very well written, thank you Ben. I think you may have missed the subtle humor on the cover. It was "published" in Oct of 2013, before TG was actually sold to the new owners. So, is Rudy able to predict the future (visionary) or just a raving lunatic (madman). TG was indeed sold a few months later, and Rudy was on the front page of twitch streaming Jaws to thousands of viewers. Renaming Mankind to Unkind is also a lame joke, but perhaps there is more truth there afterall. Everyone is being Unkind these days.

Arcade Culture Magazine And I don't mind people being upset with the cover. What bothers me is the amount of people who are telling each other what to do, what to listen to, etc. based on one of their friends being the target of Rudy, even when Rudy is also the target of that same person. They are in a MAD situation (mutually assured destruction). This lame cover was an attempt at defusing the situation a bit, while at the same time pointing out how utterly damaging BOTH sides are.
